Social Media for Actors

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of connecting over coffee with a fellow actor in the Bay Area. She's currently enrolled in the Meisner technique program, which I graduated from about two years ago. It's always refreshing to connect with our small community here in the Bay Area, sharing resources and experiences.

During our conversation, she asked me about being active on social media and how to start posting content. She mentioned that she admires how I balance my Instagram account, blending my personal life with my acting career (thank you!). She expressed a desire to start posting content but wanted it to be more polished and strategic.

While having a strategy is important, I believe the key is to avoid overthinking. If you're caught up in overanalyzing, you're not posting, and you're not engaging with your audience. My biggest advice (which I often remind myself!) is to stop overthinking. I have so many ideas and content I want to share, but sometimes I sabotage myself by overanalyzing every detail. It’s exhausting and leads to self-doubt.

It's important to remember that your posts don't have to be perfect OR go viral. When you start posting, you might only get a few likes or comments, and that's okay!! The goal is to create your own image, branding, and narrative. If your main goal is for casting directors to see your work, simply post behind-the-scenes content from your latest project. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant—just authentic.

For all the overthinkers out there, including myself, the best approach is to start doing. Through trial and error, you'll discover what content resonates with your audience and aligns with your brand. So, stop overthinking and start creating!
